Ivory Coast
General Information:
In 1906 Ivory Coast became part of French West-Africa. After WWII it was turned into an overseas territory of France.
In 1958 it got the status of an autonomous republic within the French Federation, followed by complete independence in 1960. Now it is a presidential republic.
Abidjan was the capitol until 1983, when Yamoussoukro was declared the new capitol.

The official country name was changed in 1986 from Ivory Coast into Cote d'Ivoire, reflecting that I.C. is a French speaking nation.
