| The Principality of Hutt River, previously known as Hutt River Province, is Australia's oldest national micronation. The principality has claimed to be an independent sovereign state since its foundation on April 21, 1970, but it has never been formally acknowledged by the Commonwealth of Australia or any other international entity. The principality is located on a large farming property 517 km north of Perth, near the town of Northampton. It was founded by Leonard George Casley (born 28 August 1925), when he and his associates proclaimed their secession from the state of Western Australia. Casley now styles himself "His Royal Highness Prince Leonard I". It will be obvious that the license plates will have no legal status and are not recognized by the state of Western Australia. |
